RumorWill GTA VI be delayed again? Here is how the argument looks

The game has been delayed twice. It is no surprise people ask whether it will happen a third time. Here is an honest assessment of the arguments on both sides — and when we would actually know.
The history first. GTA VI was originally announced for 2025. In May 2025 Rockstar announced it would arrive on 26 May 2026. It was later pushed again, to 19 November 2026. In that announcement Rockstar said: "We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish" fans expect. Two delays is a real track record and it would be naive to ignore it.
The arguments against a further delay are nonetheless strong.
One: Take-Two restated the date on 6 August 2026, only weeks out from release, and kept fiscal 2027 net bookings guidance unchanged at 8.0–8.2 billion dollars. Zelnick named "November 19th" in the same sentence as the guidance. Listed companies do not repeat a date at an earnings call if they are contemplating moving it.
Two: the fiscal year itself. Take-Two's fiscal year ends in March. A delay past March would push all the revenue into the next fiscal year and destroy guidance the company has now affirmed twice. The room is narrow: November, December, January, February. That is not much space to slip without wrecking a full reporting year.
Three: the supply chain has started moving. Pre-load is dated 12 November. Boxed versions containing download codes are dated to ship on 12 November. Once physical goods are in production and distribution agreements are live, the cost of a delay rises sharply.
Four: the marketing is in full flight. The Netflix deal for "An Extended Look" is a third-party partnership with its own dates and commitments. That is not something a company sets up months ahead if it intends to move the release date.
Five: the leak changed nothing. Despite Rockstar being on high alert for a full week over the leak, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported that management had no plans to delay or alter the 27 August showing. A leak has never caused a Rockstar game to slip; the 2022 breach did not either.
The arguments for a delay are thinner, but they exist. Rockstar has delayed this game twice and has a history of putting polish ahead of dates — that is in fact what the company is known for. Claims of a third delay are circulating, but they come exclusively from leakers and none is backed by a traceable source. File them as rumour.
When would we know? Based on the pattern of the previous two delays, Rockstar announces these several months ahead, not several weeks. The further into September and October we get without an announcement, the less likely a delay becomes. If nothing has been said by mid-October, 19 November is close to certain.
Our assessment, clearly marked as assessment rather than fact: a delay is unlikely. The financial, production and marketing arguments all point the same way, and the company has confirmed the date as recently as it possibly could. But "unlikely" is not "impossible", and anyone telling you they know this for certain does not.
One thing worth being clear about: a delay would not be a scandal. Rockstar has built its reputation on not shipping unfinished work, and GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Max Payne 3 were all delayed before release. That track record is precisely why people trust the quality when the games finally arrive. The difference now is simply that the financial window has narrowed in a way it had not in 2025.
If you are planning time off or buying hardware around the release: there is no reason to avoid it, but equally no reason to make irreversible decisions before October.
