Jason and Lucia: everything Rockstar has confirmed about the leads

For the first time in Grand Theft Auto history, the leads are a couple. Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos carry GTA VI, and Lucia is also the first playable female protagonist in a mainline GTA. Here is everything Rockstar itself has confirmed about them — and exactly where the line falls between fact and guesswork.

The names are confirmed. Rockstar published the full names, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, around the second trailer in May 2025. Until then they had only been "Jason and Lucia" in official material. A detail worth noting for anyone tracking leaks: the leaker GameRoll published both surnames correctly before Rockstar confirmed them — one of very few verified hits in the entire leak flood.

The story, in Rockstar's own words: the game is set in Vice City, in the fictional state of Leonida. The official description follows two people who "have always known the deck is stacked against them" and who attempt one good score that goes wrong — dragging them into "the darkest side of the sunniest place in America" and a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state. That is very nearly everything Rockstar has said about the plot, verbatim.

Lucia is where the trailers begin. The first trailer opened on Lucia in prison, telling Jason she had "bad luck" — a scene fans have analysed frame by frame for two and a half years. Rockstar has never explained why she was inside, for how long, or what happens after she gets out. Every theory you have seen is a theory.

The supporting cast. Rockstar has published official character bios for a sizeable group: Boobie Ike, a Vice City real estate and entertainment figure who runs a strip club and a recording studio; Dre'Quan Priest, a music mogul behind the label Only Raw Records; the hip-hop duo Real Dimez; Cal Hampton, a friend of Jason's who monitors Coast Guard communications; Brian Heder, a Keys drug runner with a boat yard, and his wife Lori; and Raul Bautista, a bank robber assembling a crew. Wyman, who runs an auto salvage yard, appears in Ultimate Edition material.

What is NOT confirmed — and this matters. The voice cast is not confirmed. The names that have circulated, including Dylan Rourke and Manni L. Perez, have never been confirmed by Rockstar. The same goes for the corrupt-detective antagonist theory, which is fan speculation with no source behind it. And claims that the story splits into five chapters, or that each protagonist can be played separately in free roam, come from the leaker GameRoll in July 2025. That leaker has exactly one verified hit to their name. That is far too little to call any of it fact.

Can you switch between them? Rockstar has confirmed no character-switching system at all. GTA V let you switch between three protagonists via an on-screen wheel, and most people assume something comparable here — but that is expectation management, not confirmation. The leaked footage from 18 August shows gameplay as Jason and has not shown Lucia; the leaker has said they are holding Lucia material back over story spoilers.

Why does any of this matter? Because it is the biggest structural leap the series has made since GTA V introduced three playable protagonists in 2013. A couple committing crimes together — the obvious comparison is Bonnie and Clyde, and Rockstar has not tried to dodge it — allows for dialogue-driven storytelling that GTA has never attempted at this scale.

When will we know more? Thursday 27 August. "An Extended Look" is the first official gameplay showing, and it is the likeliest place to see how Jason and Lucia actually function together. We will update this article after the premiere with what Rockstar shows itself — and nothing else.
