How (and when) to watch "An Extended Look" from Iceland

On Thursday 27 August we finally get to see real Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay. "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" premieres on Netflix and then goes out free to everyone six hours later. Here is exactly when, where and how to watch — with every time converted to Icelandic time.

On Netflix, Thursday 27 August at 19:00 Icelandic time. This is the premiere. Rockstar announced it on the Newswire on 6 August: the video goes live on Netflix at 3 p.m. US Eastern time, which is 19:00 here. Iceland sits on UTC+0 all year and does not change its clocks, so there is no daylight saving complication — 19:00 means 19:00.

Free for everyone, at 01:00 in the early hours of Friday 28 August. Six hours after the Netflix premiere, the same video appears on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel and on the official GTA VI site. You need no subscription, no Netflix and no payment. If you would rather not stay up, the video will simply be sitting there when you wake up on Friday morning.

Do you need Netflix? No — unless you want to see it six hours ahead of everyone else. That head start is the only thing the subscription buys you. The video is listed on Netflix as its own title and does not disappear once it also hits YouTube. If you do have a subscription, you can set a reminder inside Netflix now.

What is in it? Rockstar has not said. The company has published neither a runtime nor a description of the contents. What we do know is the context: the two previous videos, Trailer 1 from December 2023 and Trailer 2 from May 2025, were both cut as cinematic trailers with no actual gameplay. The name "An Extended Look" and the longer Netflix format strongly suggest this will be the first official gameplay showing. Everything beyond that is guesswork.

A warning: anything promising "every detail" from the video before 27 August is either speculation or fabricated. Fake Netflix screenshots describing a three-part structure have already circulated. They are invented. The same goes for supposed "leaks" from the video itself: it has not been released, so there is nothing to leak.

What about the leaks that have run all week? They change nothing about the premiere. According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, Rockstar has no plans to delay or alter the 27 August showing, despite the company being on high alert over the leak. That is arguably the most interesting part of the evening: for the first time we will be able to hold official material up against leaked material and see what survives.

What to watch for. The map, and whether Vice City spans more counties than we have seen. The HUD — particularly the wanted system, which leaked footage suggests reaches six stars. Whether Jason and Lucia appear playable separately. And whether Rockstar says anything at all about online play, a subject on which it has been completely silent.

Practical notes for the night: the video goes live on YouTube at 01:00 on Friday morning, so if you want to watch it on a big screen without Netflix, Friday morning is a more sensible plan than staying up. If you want to avoid spoilers, mute notifications from X, Reddit and TikTok from 19:00 on Thursday — clips will be everywhere within minutes of the Netflix premiere.
